In December, my Matt and Nat bag and I will have been together for a whole year. Ordinarily this wouldn't be of much significance, as previous purses had been wallet transportation and little more.

But this . . . this bag is different.

Green. Perfectly shaped. Perfectly sized. Willingly accomodates most items I try to squeeze into it without fuss. Perfect little handles that fit neatly in the palm, or hang on the arm for convenience. Made of the silkiest pleather you will ever feel. I didn't even realize it wasn't leather until months after buying it.

Everywhere I go, people love the bag. The only way a bag could get more attention is if there were a baby bunny peeking out of it. People ask me where I got the bag, how much I paid for the bag. People can't believe how much I can fit in the bag.

The bag has gone to Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Tokyo. This bag has seen the world with me, tucked under airplane seats, peeking out of other bags, sitting on the train between Tokyo and Makuhari.

The bag is equally at home with a jean jacket as it is with an ivory peacoat, lunch grabbed from Wendy's or chic French cuisine. Basically, it's perfect.

But here's the thing . . . when you use it everyday for everything and take it everywhere, it starts to show a bit of wear and tear. Nothing serious, really, just some wear on the handles. But it's making me realize that the perfect bag isn't going to last forever.

Finding its successor seemed like a fairly simple pursuit, but so far it hasn't been. Everywhere I look, the bags are good, but not necessarily worthy of taking place alongside THE bag.

It's actually gotten to the point that I am tempted to buy another of the same style just to ensure that I will have one even when the original finally gives up the ghost.

I think that's part of the appeal of Matt and Nat bags. Each one feels rare and entirely unique, and they're hard to come by. I don't know if that was strategic on their part, but I think it's working in their favour.

Well, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to drool over more handbags.

NEW!

A successor has been found! Go see!

Did you find one? Happened across your blog while searching for a Matt & Nat for my fiancee. Check out the "Tokyo" handbag in lime green. Hard to find? Yes. What I did was call a Dillards department store in Nashville, TN. They're shipping to me as we speak. Anyway, fellow blogger, thought I'd offer the tip in the interest of further promoting M&N. I like that they don't use real cow.

I am not sure you have the tokyo Matt and Nat. I think you are mistaken. You seem to have the lime green Ibiza. I just wanted to make sure this mistake was correct so that young girls accross america would not waste their day looking for the wrong purse.

Hope all is well with you. Happy Holidays.

Sincerely
Matt

Good eye Matt, the bag is indeed an Ibiza, not a Tokyo. However, I didn't say that it was a Tokyo, as much as I said that it had been to Tokyo.

Nevertheless, good observation :)

I've never responded to a post before. But just had to say I have exactly the same bag. About as old. And I feel just the same way about it. I never received so many compliments on a purse (or anything else) before! The charm is fading a bit now that I'm seeing similar bags hanging off other peoples arms ... it was just a little more special when I was the only one with one. But nevertheless it is still the best purse in the world.

Hey- I happened upon your awesome sight while also searching out a Matt and Nat bag. Aren't they the greatest?? You are absolutely right about the lime Ibiza- it's the best. I wonder...did you ever find another Matt & Nat comparable or did you purchase the same bag? I like my lime Ibiza so well- I purchased the same in lime striped. Everyone needs a little variety, right? Good luck in your endeavour to find another bag as comparable. :-)

Thanks to everyone for their comments! I'm afraid finding the illustrious bags is as hard for me as everyone else has found, but I do recommend sending an email to the fine folks at Matt & Nat if you have any questions. Christine was kind enough to send me the names of local retailers who order from them, and she might be able to do the same for you. Good luck everyone!

Oh, and in case you didn't know, a successor has been found!

Well, I haven't heard of any imitations, but generally I'd look for the Matt & Nat imprint, and the Via Vegan motto that you'll find stamped somewhere on the bag. Other than that, I'm not sure. Hope that helps!

hi!
on the via vegan (aka matt and nat) website you have the option of ordering...but they don't give you any info about shipping etc.
I just lovvvve their design..but they aren't sold here in saskatoon..and I don't want to order form a US site (too exensive).
Has anyone successfully bought anything from their site??
Thanks!

By golly, I can answer two questions in one! First, the shoes . . . you can now get them at Via Vegan for about the same as you would pay in a store.

Second, has anyone bought anything from their site? Well, in fact, I bought two Matt & Nat bags which arrived about 15 minutes ago. I ordered them no more than a week ago, and was then contacted via email. The gal was ever so helpful in letting me know if there were any lime Ibiza left (alas, all gone), but helped me score a lime Soho and fuschia Ibiza :D

So, I highly recommend ordering from the website. Get thee a Matt & Nat bag!

Try out Simply Sterling girls, I found them through a web search. Just got my bag and I love it! It is the Lea Bag in black with pink accent! It is so hot! They said a lot of the Spring/Summer bags are sold out from the manufacturer, but they still have lots of great bags ready to ship!
