Edmonton Architecture

There are buildings around town that catch the eye and work their way into our consciousness as we pass them. But did you ever stop to think about which ones they are?

Personally, I never gave much thought to the local architecture, except to sneer at the coloured boxes that litter suburbia, or lament the loss of a heritage building. This site has reminded me that there is so much more to appreciate.

David Murray Architect has been involved with many local building restorations and studies, and a perusal of their projects has renewed my appreciation of the city’s buildings. We take these buildings for granted, being a part of our local consciousness for so long. But there is so much craftsmanship in some of these buildings, little architectural gems that we may have seen once or twice, or never at all. I’m particularly intrigued by the video, which seems to have come from an exhibition on 1940′s to 1960′s architecture at the Art Gallery.

I’m so excited, now I want to drive around and see all these great buildings in person!

See also the Edmonton Journal gallery for more shots of historic local buildings.
